Dr. M. Umar

Dr. M. Umar earned his B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering and has over 12 years of professional experience spanning academia, research, and industry. His areas of specialization include Metal Joining Processes, Additive Manufacturing, Laser Beam Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), and Materials Characterization.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Umar has been actively involved in teaching, research, student mentoring, entrepreneurship development, and industry collaboration. His research interests focus on welding metallurgy, additive manufacturing of metallic materials, biodegradable magnesium alloys, corrosion behavior, mechanical characterization, and advanced manufacturing technologies. He has published more than 17 research papers in reputed SCI and Scopus-indexed journals and international conferences. He has also contributed to innovation and intellectual property development with two published patents.

Dr. Umar served as Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli, where he conducted extensive research on the weldability of AA5083 aluminium alloys. He subsequently worked as Welding Coordinator at Barakath Engineering Industries Pvt. Ltd., Tiruchirappalli, managing welding quality assurance, welder training, and fabrication activities. Since March 2022, he has been serving as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at SRM TRP Engineering College, Tiruchirappalli.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Umar has been serving as the Overall Coordinator of the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) since 2023, mentoring student innovators and facilitating the establishment of four student startups. He is a recognized Research Supervisor under Anna University and actively guides undergraduate and postgraduate projects. His contributions have significantly strengthened research culture, innovation, entrepreneurship development, and industry-oriented learning among students.
